This week I’ve had several people share the resolutions they’ve made for 2024 which made me think about the times i’ve done the same thing, the times it worked and the times it didn't…
The goals ranged from losing weight, detoxing, exercising more to relaxing more, reducing stress.
All of these things have one thing in common and that is most people just want to improve.
Unfortunately, resolutions fail more often than they succeed. I’ve read that 23% of people fail in the first week, 43% quit by the end of the month and only about 9% finish the year.
I believe this isn’t because we don’t make the goals with the best of intentions. But I think it’s because we haven’t spent enough time thinking about why we made them. I feel the why is the special thing that gets us through the days when our minds tell us that we can wait until tomorrow to start.
The why is the reason that you’ve really decided to do something.
I’m suggesting that we all take some time right now without any distractions to think about who we want to be in 2024. Not what you want to do, or how you want to do it, or when you want to start, even if you’ve already started maybe you could use this as a review...
Just forget about the what, how and when and just focus on the who and the why.
Who do you see yourself as when you really take the time to think about it? Do you see yourself as someone who is fit, excited to learn and ready to do the work to become your who?
Why do you want to be the person you see, what are the drivers? Does being fit create more of an opportunity to be around longer for your loved ones? Does continuing to learn keep you feeling alive and happy? Do you want to put your phone down so you can focus more on the people around you?
Spend the time to find out, start now if you haven’t already and figure out your who and why, take the time to find your vision.
Visualising this can help you galvanise your direction and help you achieve your goals, it will let you see your who and your why and I mean really see it, the mind really can be a place if you let it. Because once you really can see your who and your why, the what, how and when become easier and more likely to be achievable.
