The REAL Specialist Care Programme is dedicated to improving the strength, quality of life and sense of wellbeing for anybody diagnosed with any cancer. It is specifically designed to help prepare for treatment, maximise recovery, regain physical and emotional strength, improve body confidence and control.
The REAL Specialist Care Programme is designed to optimise your physical and functional health, allowing you to maintain independence and reclaim your body confidence and control. It helps to ease pain and muscular tension. It will help you to regain your strength and mobility, increase your energy levels and improve breathing. Through Pilates principles it will also help strengthen your core muscles, improve your posture and your breathing. The programme will help to reduce treatment related side effects, including fatigue shifting the focus from illness to wellness.
At REAL, the Chartered Physiotherapists leading our REAL Specialist Care Programme sessions are Certified Cancer Rehabilitation health professionals. They also teach a variety of classes including Mat Pilates, Reformer Pilates and Hybrid Exercise Classes. Each individual feels they are benefitting more from their class with the Physiotherapist having knowledge about their personal medical condition and goals.
You are entitled to 10 FREE half hour sessions. Prior to attending the course, you will be given the REAL Health Partnership Assessment which is a 30 min session to discuss your current condition and stage of treatment, and for your Health Partner to assess your current movement and function to determine which exercise programme will be best for you.
After the 10 sessions, you will be invited for a 30 minute post-assessment to review your progress and discuss your ongoing options at REAL, at home or in the community. You will also have learnt how to adapt your exercises and learnt principles of how to exercise safely, and our physiotherapists can guide you into our other exercise classes, knowing you will be safe and able in those classes and continue to have ongoing support from the REAL team.
If you are interested in the programme and would like to know more, please email or call us to talk things through with one of our Health Partners.
